![]() August 2, 2007 Port Cargo Outlook LOS ANGELES (AP) - A report says the twin ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach and other major seaports across the U.S. will see record cargo traffic in coming months as retailers ramp up holiday shipments. The report by the National Retail Foundation and research firm Global Insight says cargo container traffic will exceed 2006 levels during the traditional peak cargo shipment season between August and October. A Global Insight economist says, despite the heavy volume, the ports are operating without congestion and "shippers can be confident the system will have adequate capacity to provide acceptable performance for the remainder of the year." The Los Angeles and Long Beach ports account for more than 40 percent of all the container traffic coming into the U.S. Copyright 2007 The Associated Press |
